Lawrence family Bible; includes two leaves of handwritten genealogical notes between the Apocrypha and the New Testament. Page 1: William Pennell son of Robert and Hannah was married to Mary Mercer, daughter of Thomas and Mary Mercer of Thornbury in the county of Chester in Pennsylvania the twenty sixth day of the eighth month anno domini 1710. William Pennell son of the above William & Mary was born 27th day of the 11th month 1725/6 Mary Dell, daughter of Thomas and Rachel Dell was born the 16th day of the 9th month anno domini 1734. The above William Pennell and Mary Dell were married the 25th day of the 2nd month AD 1751 old style of whom were born following ten children. Abraham Pennell was born 4th mo 9th 1753 new stile Robert Pennell was born 7th mo 14th 1755 Dell Pennell was born 1st mo 12th 1758 Samuel Pennell was born 4th mo 12th 1760 died at sea Rachael Pennell was born 8th mo 1st 1762 Esther Pennell was born 7th mo 13th 1765 William Pennell was born 11th mo 29th 1767 Aaron Pennell was born 12th mo 19th 1769 Jesse Pennell was born 8th mo 1st 1772 Mary Pennell was born 10th mo 3rd 1775 All arrived to the estate of men and women Page 2Henry Lawrence, son of Henry and Hannah Massey Lawrence was born on the 26th day of the 8th Month AD 1763. The above names Henry Lawrence and Mary Pennell the youngest Daughter of William and Mary Pennell named on the preceding page, were married in the early part of the year AD 1795 of who were born the following children. William Lawrence was born the eighth Day of the fourth month, the first day of the week, about three o'clock in the morning, in the year one thousand seven hundred ninety eight 1798. Thomas D Lawrence was born the twenty-fourth day of the sixth month on the third day of the week about half past ten o'clock in the morning, in the year one thousand eight hundred 1800's. Mordecai Lawrence was born the twenty-fifth day of the second month, the sixth day of the week about three o'clock in the morning in the year one thousand eight hundred and three. 1803. Page 3Henry Lawrence died at his farm in Haverford Township Delaware County on the eleventh day of the 10th month AD 1810 aged about 47 years and was buried at the Friends graveyard in Springfield. Mary Haycock Widdo of the above named Henry Lawrence, departed this life 8 mo 6th 1860 aged nearly 85 years and was buried at Friends burying ground at Goshen on the 9th of the 8mo 1860. |

The New Testament (p [845-1088]) has separate title page. This issue is without Ostervald's Practical observations (Evans 23656), omitted from some copies owing to the objections of the Baptist associations. Printed in two columns. "An index to the Holy Bible: or, an account of the most remarkable passages in the books of the Old and New Testaments: pointing to the time wherein they happened, and to the places of scripture wherein they are recorded." Also includes Tables of Time, of Measures, Weights and Coins, of Offices and Conditions of Men, and of Kindred and Affinity. "A brief concordance or table to the Bible of the last translation; serving for the more easy finding out of the most useful places therein contained. Carefully perused and enlarged by John Downame, B.A. . Trenton: Printed and sold by Isaac Collins. M. DCC. XC."--P. [1089-1160], with separate title page (Evans 22472). May be based on the King James version of 1611, according to a Bible with a similar title held by Eastern College. |
