Description |
This photo, taken in 1966 for the "Facelift Havertown" initiative of the Optimists Club, shows businesses on the south side of Eagle Road, east of Darby Road in the Oakmont business district. It continues from those shown in photo Obj. ID 268. Visible (right to left) are Gene's Oakmont Meat Market, Kennedy's Cleanery Co. Inc. (promising 6 hour dry cleaning), and The Iron Gate pub. The separate low building on the left edge of the photo is the stone station building for the Philadelphia Suburban Transportation Co.'s Ardmore trolley line, which would be abandoned at the end of that year. Appears in HTHS book "Haverford Township (Images of America)" p. 93 top. |
